In 1761 London, the notorious St. Mary’s of Bethlehem asylum, known as Bedlam, becomes a macabre spectacle as wealthy visitors gather to observe the patients like animals in cages. Nell Bowen, among the visitors, is shocked by the cruel and degrading conditions endured by the inmates of the institution.

Determined to confront the terrifying reality behind Bedlam’s walls, Nell encounters a grim world where those suffering from mental illness face neglect and exploitation. Her presence sets the stage for a conflict between compassion and the cold, uncaring system that traps the unfortunate residents.
