A Canadian nurse named Betsy arrives on a remote Caribbean island to care for Jessica, the wife of Paul Holland, who lies in a mysterious, trance-like state that leaves her unresponsive. As Betsy settles into the austere plantation where Paul and his household live, she becomes intrigued by the island’s spiritual practices and local beliefs in voodoo.

Determined to understand Jessica’s condition, Betsy seeks the help of the island’s native voodoo priest, Carrefour, hoping his rituals might offer a cure. Along the way, she finds herself drawn to Paul, deepening the complex emotional and supernatural tensions surrounding Jessica’s fate in this eerie colonial setting.
