Twelve-year-old Trevor McKinney lives with his mother, Arlene, and struggles with ordinary challenges in a suburban environment. His social studies teacher, Eugene Simonet, encourages the class to come up with a plan to change the world. Inspired, Trevor devises an idea called “pay it forward,” where one person helps three others, who then each help three more, creating a chain of kindness. Despite initial skepticism from his classmates and family, Trevor commits to putting this concept into action.

As Trevor begins performing good deeds for strangers, he encounters resistance and complicated situations that test his optimism and resolve. Meanwhile, Arlene faces her own personal struggles, and Eugene supports both Trevor and Arlene as they confront their difficulties. The idea quickly spreads beyond Trevor’s immediate circle, influencing the people around him and sparking unexpected reactions across the community.
