When an enormous alien probe enters the solar system and disrupts Earth’s environment by vaporizing the oceans, Admiral James T. Kirk and the crew of the starship Enterprise face an unprecedented threat to the planet’s survival. The probe emits signals that seem linked to the extinction of humpback whales, prompting Spock, McCoy, Scotty, Sulu, Chekov, and Uhura to search for a solution beyond conventional Starfleet operations.

To prevent Earth’s destruction, the crew undertakes a daring mission to travel back in time to the 20th century, before whales disappeared from the oceans. Their goal is to retrieve a pair of live humpback whales and bring them to the present to respond to the probe’s signals. Navigating unfamiliar past environments and evading present-day authorities, the Enterprise team balances their technological expertise with human ingenuity to save both the planet and its natural inhabitants.
