The Lord of the Rings (1978)

Frodo Baggins (Christopher Guard), a simple hobbit of the Shire, inherits the One Ring, an ancient and powerful artifact created by the Dark Lord Sauron. With Sauron’s forces searching for the Ring, Frodo embarks on a perilous journey to Mount Doom, the only place where it can be destroyed. Joined by his loyal friends Sam (Michael Scholes), Merry (Simon Chandler), and Pippin (Dominic Guard), as well as the warrior Aragorn (John Hurt) and the wizard Gandalf (William Squire), Frodo must evade the sinister Ringwraiths while navigating the dangers of Middle-earth.

As the Fellowship of the Ring forms, tensions rise between those who seek to use the Ring’s power and those who understand its corruption. Meanwhile, Saruman (Fraser Kerr), a fallen wizard, assembles an army to destroy those who stand against Sauron. Blending traditional and rotoscope animation, this adaptation covers much of The Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers, capturing the vast world of J.R.R. Tolkien’s epic tale.
