When a flaming meteor crashes into the hills near a small town, Dr. Clayton Forrester and journalist Sylvia van Buren investigate the mysterious object, only to discover it is one of many landing sites for an invading Martian army. These extraterrestrial invaders arrive in towering, tripod machines equipped with powerful heat rays and shields that render all conventional weapons, including the atomic bomb, ineffective.

As the Martians advance, the townspeople face overwhelming destruction and chaos while military forces struggle to mount a defense. The film centers on Forrester and Sylvia as they navigate the escalating crisis and attempt to survive the seemingly unstoppable alien assault.
