Professor Norman Reed returns to America with his new wife Paula, who was raised on a remote island steeped in unusual dancing and voodoo rituals. As Norman tries to reconcile his scientific worldview with Paula’s mysterious customs, tension grows between them and Norman’s socially elitist friends.

Suspicious of Paula’s strange background, Norman’s friends start gossiping and scheming, increasing the pressure on the couple. Feeling misunderstood and threatened, Paula turns to her mystical practices to protect both herself and Norman, blurring the line between real magic and paranoia.
